Taxis are another way of traveling around Cancun. ALL major Cancun hotels have a sign at the front entrance of their hotel listing the taxi fare to different Cancun destinations (the sign is outside the front entrance where you would hail a cab from).

Some cab drivers will quote you a fare higher than this rate (everyone will try to rip you off if you let them) but a few might actually quote you a rate less than the published fare. Look at the rate, and then ask a taxi driver how much they charge to the destination you want to go to.

Try not to pay what they initially ask, and counter with an offer of about 20%- 30% less. If they tell you $5 US (about 50 pesos), offer 35 pesos, unless their initial figure is just outlandish. Getting a taxi in Cancun is never a fun experience, unless you don't care how much money you are spending. Always negotiate, and NEVER, NEVER get into a taxi without agreeing on a price beforehand. There are many stories of people just telling the taxi driver "take me to Club la Boom" and then getting nailed with a $20 dollar charge for their 5 minute trip. A taxi at 5 a.m. will cost more than a taxi at 10 p.m. If you take a taxi from your hotel to a nightclub, and it cost you $5 at 10 p.m., expect to pay a 10% or 15% more if you return in the wee hours of the morning.

WATER TAXI
Aqua Bus Cancún is a water taxi service in the Nichupté Lagoon. These are 48 and 60 passenger boats that cruise the lagoon. Take Aqua Bus to and from: Marinas, Hotels, Waterfront Restaurants, Bar Hopping, Movies, Shopping Malls, or just cruise the waterways and enjoy a beautiful sunset.

Not only are they a nice way to get around in the hotel zone, but it makes for a very affordable way to get out on the water and see the sights on the lagoon! Great for families.

The water taxi runs all the way from the south end of the hotel zone at Punta Nizuc up to the Embarcadero at Playa Linda on the north end of the hotel zone, with stops at several points along the way, including La Isla Shopping Center and Carlos 'n Charlie's!

Schedules
From 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m./from 05:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Boats run every hour. See their web site for a map route and schedule.
