In
Mexico, most of the waiters, bell boys, and tourist operators
receive a very low salary, and their most important income
comes from tips for their service. A good tip is considered,
on average, to be
15% of the total check in a restaurant, depending the
quality of service.
For a bell boy, 2-3 USD is usually recommended. Taxi drivers
do not require tips,
once you agree to their service. For the maids, the regular
tip runs about 2 USD per night.
Gas station workers will expect about the same amount.

Mexico
has a tax over the sales of goods, which is 15%. However, in Cancun,
the tax is just 10%. Known as IVA, this tax applies to almost every service, good or
product, and it's paid by every resident as by any visitor. This
tax also applies to the purchase of airline tickets inside of Mexico (10% domestics
and 2.5% internationals)
There are also other taxes and charges for lodging, meals and
phone calls.
