Cancun
is located in the state of Quintana Roo, (Yucatan peninsula)
used to be territory of itzaes that came from south. Mayan
people learned to live in the jungle. They left extraordinary
vestiges like Tulum, the City of Cobá and Kohunlich,
among others. These spectacular sights exist in a lot of known places, but most of them
are unexplored. It is not too presumptuous to assume that
there is still much more of the Mayan's spectacular culture
left to be discovered in the nearby jungles.
The name "Cancun" means several
things: "down abundance", "snake pot"
or "snake of gold". Cancun is located at 229 km (142.3 mls) of Felipe Carrillo
Puerto, at the end of the tourist corridor.
Quintana Roo´s name was given by the independent Patrice,
Don Andres Quintana Roo, a poet and writer who was born in Mérida,
Yucatan. |
