Safety Considerations
Vacation is a time to forget about your daily life. However, there are certain precautions you must consider in order to really enjoy this special time of your life. Cancun is a very healthy and safe place, but some protection due to weather conditions, altitude, water, and food would be recommended. The water in Mexico is clean, but is recommended that you drink only purified water from bottles. The ice cubes at the hotels and restaurants are purified too, however, so you don't have to worry about providing them yourself. Due to the heat on summer time, drink water frequently to avoid common problems, such as dehydration. Sun block protection, especially for kids and those with fair or delicate skin is a must. Also, try to avoid purchasing road-side snacks from food vendors, and instead eat a meal at an established restaurant when you feel the need. Antacid would be a perfect item to bring if you are an adventurous spirit and want to try our authentic Mexican chili.

Along the main road downtown (Avenida Tulum), there are periodic speed bumps that are unusually high. Traffic must slow considerably to get over them, allowing you to walk safely across the street. However, usual precautions of checking both ways before doing so is strictly recommended..
MEDICAL SERVICES IN CANCUN.
Most 5 star hotels have a doctor or nurse on hand. Any hotel, or even a taxi driver, can recommend to you a source for medical advice or care. The Mexican health system is a 5-tier program, and most doctors or services will require you to pay cash, though some accept credit cards. Keep all receipts for your reimbursement if you have medical insurance.
